We'll be upfront: Happy Soul Films is based in Brampton, Ontario, not in BC. We travel to film and photograph weddings across Canada. Families often stretch from Brampton to Surrey, and a wedding is when both sides come together. Since 2016 we've filmed multi-day South Asian weddings across the GTA, and we bring that same planning to every wedding we travel for.

Sikh and Punjabi weddings, planned around the gurdwara

A large share of the Lower Mainland's South Asian community is Sikh and Punjabi, and a Sikh wedding weekend often begins days before the Anand Karaj. We plan coverage around each event, not a generic run sheet:

• The days before: chooda and kalire, maiyan and vatna, and a jaggo that runs late into the night. These are the events families watch again and again, so we plan documentary coverage for each one.
• The wedding morning: the milni, the Anand Karaj and the four laavan, filmed quietly and respectfully. We keep to the gurdwara's guidance on head coverings, camera positions and where we can stand, and we record the kirtan cleanly so every word is kept.
• The doli and the reception: the emotional goodbye, then a bhangra-filled night that deserves a team who can keep up.

We plan Hindu, Gujarati, Muslim and fusion weddings with the same care: haldi and sangeet, pheras under the mandap, nikaah and walima, and two families' traditions edited into one film.

How we plan a wedding from across the country

Distance changes the logistics, not the film. Here's how a Lower Mainland wedding works with us:

• Consultation over Zoom, scheduled in Pacific time. Vancouver is three hours behind Toronto, so evening calls are easy for both of us.
• A personal client portal holds your itinerary, timings, addresses and vendor contacts. You can update it up to two weeks before the wedding.
• A call with your planner or DJ before we fly, so entrances, speeches and the first dance are mapped in advance.
• Arriving early. We plan to land before the first event, so we can walk the venues and check the light.

West-coast light, and a plan for rain

The Lower Mainland is beautiful and often wet, especially outside summer. We plan a covered backup for every outdoor portrait session and build the timeline so a passing shower doesn't cost you your couple portraits. For engagement and concept films, couples often ask about the Stanley Park seawall, Queen Elizabeth Park, Gastown's brick lanes, the farm fields of the Fraser Valley and the Sea-to-Sky Highway. We check location permits and filming rules before we book a spot.

Films and photographs from one team

We offer both videography and photography, so your film and your photos are planned together and nobody fights for the same angle.

Depending on your collection, your films can include:

• A documentary film for each event, so the ceremony, speeches and performances are kept in full for relatives who couldn't make the trip.
• A cinematic or storytelling highlight film of five to ten minutes.
• Optional same-day or next-day edits, premiered at your reception. A same-day edit needs at least three hours between the ceremony and the reception.
• Optional concept films shot across at least two locations.
