Happy Soul Films is a Brampton, Ontario studio that has filmed South Asian weddings since 2016, and Alberta is already part of our story. Our portfolio includes a concept film in the Canadian Rockies and an engagement film in Banff. One city, many traditions
Calgary's South Asian community is a close mix of Sikh, Muslim and Hindu families, according to the 2021 census, so no two weddings here follow the same script. We plan coverage around yours:
- Sikh weddings: the jaggo and maiyan, the milni, the Anand Karaj and the four laavan, filmed with the discretion a gurdwara asks of us.
- Muslim weddings: mehndi, baraat, nikaah, rukhsati and walima, filmed respectfully, with coverage planned around each family's preferences.
- Hindu and Gujarati weddings: haldi, pithi, garba and sangeet, the varmala and the pheras, with dedicated audio so every vow is heard.
- Fusion weddings: two cultures, one story, edited so both families recognise themselves.
The Rockies, an hour and a half away
Few cities put mountains this close to a wedding. Many Calgary couples add an engagement or concept film in Banff, Canmore, Lake Louise or Kananaskis, or slip away for portraits between the ceremony and the reception. A few things we plan for:
- Permits and drones. Parks Canada restricts drone flights in national parks, and some sites need permits for commercial filming. We check the rules for your exact spots well before the day.
- Light and weather. Mountain light changes fast, and snow can arrive in any month. We build in time for both.
- Winter weddings. Alberta winters are cold, so outdoor portraits are short and planned. Indoors, we light banquet halls the same way we would in the GTA.
How a Calgary wedding works with us
- Consultation over Zoom, scheduled in Mountain time, two hours behind Toronto.
- Your client portal holds the itinerary, timings, addresses and vendor contacts, and you can update it up to two weeks before the wedding.
- A planning call with your planner, decorator or DJ, so entrances and speeches are mapped in advance.
- Arriving before the first event to walk the venues and check the light.
Films and photographs from one team
We offer both videography and photography, planned together so your film and your photos tell the same story.
Depending on your collection, you'll receive a documentary film for each event, a five-to-ten-minute cinematic or storytelling highlight film, and optional same-day edits, next-day edits and concept films.
Edmonton and the rest of Alberta
We plan Edmonton weddings the same way as Calgary ones, and we're happy to travel anywhere in the province.

No. Our studio is in Brampton, Ontario. We travel to Calgary, Edmonton and the Rockies for weddings, engagement films and concept films.
